A slight profit was made once again in the backing to win figures for both the overall running total and the RED selections yesterday, which starts us on the road to recovering the large loss we took two days ago, hopefully the speed of recovery will increase today and we can get somewhere back to where we were before the figurative betting storm hit us.

Yesterday was very poor with just over 10 points loss overall on the cards. I could blame the weather, although that would be a weak excuse, sometimes the luck just isn't with you. Hopefully, today will be just like the last time the blog recorded a big loss when we came back right after to wipe out all of the loss and make around £40 profit on top of it, not that I'm guaranteeing anything!

Selections for 28/06/2011

Another scratchy day of profit yesterday making £27 for the overall total, nothing to write home about, but still far better than a loss, and it does wipe out the day before's loss of £24 so, all in all I'm not too disappointed.

The RED selections also made a tiny profit on £3 but when there were only two races that qualified it simply equates to one winning and the other losing, and as I always say profit is profit, (well, I say it in life, not sure I've ever said it on here).

It is frustrating for me, and no doubt everyone out there who's betting on the tips to see days where the blog will make £140 or £175 and the other days where we just about break even or make a loss, there is no real way of explaining it sadly, as much as I try and find the best horse in every race, sometimes, no amount of research will lead you to a winner, you just have to hope that in the long-term you know what you're doing.

Enjoy your day people, if it's anything like as hot as yesterday, I will be thoroughly pissed off by 5pm, hopefully due to having to work in the heat and not as a result of the four legged creatures we are all placing our hard earned on.

Selections for 27/06/2011

Yesterday was looking pretty shocking until the last hour or so of all the race cards when we did actually manage to minimise the amount of loss we appeared to be heading for midway through the day, and, in fact, we only ended with a small loss of just over 2 points by the end of play.

The backing to place figure was the one that took the real pasting simply because it relies on consistency rather than occasional big priced winners, and yesterday had long priced horses making more appearances on the podium than Cliff Richard does at Wimbledon when the clouds come over. Still, it remains in profit overall so it's not all that bad.

Due to the heatwave that seems to have made an appearance all over South London this morning there is a good chance I will collapse as I go about my business this afternoon, work just doesn't seem like the right thing to do on a day like this, but there you are, until were all making a living from betting on events like this it remains the reality.

Selections for 26/06/2011

Yesterday saw another profitable return over the course of the day with over 13 points profit rolling in by the time the day finished. With weekend racing, as I said in yesterdays post, you will sometimes struggle to find winners due to the usually increased quality of the field, but when you do, they tend to be at bigger prices than you would normally get, as yesterday proved to an extent.

All of the cards made profit other than Lingfield, which ironically is where my Nan and Granddad chose to visit yesterday for the veterans day, leading them to ask me for some tips before they left. Suffice to say, none of the horses I selected won, which will no doubt will lead them to pour scorn on my tipping skills from now on. Unfortunately, telling two elderly people that you did make profit over the entire day doesn't seem to go down too well!

Selections for 25/06/2011

Yesterday saw the overall profit of backing to win go above the £600 mark for the first time, thanks in large part to the superb results we had at Newmarket with over £140 profit from that card alone. The first race of the day saw Master Mylo storm home at Betfair SP odds of over 10/1 and ensured that a profitable card was there for all after one race, but the winners didn't stop there and by the time the last race finished the profit generated had consigned all thoughts of the average afternoon cards to history.

I know a lot of people like to bet on the horses on the weekend, but it is my personal belief that it is actually more difficult to find winners purely because the quality of the field tends to be a little higher for Saturday meetings, and with increased quality throughout the entire field the chances of finding the single horse which is going to beat all the others naturally becomes a more difficult task, not that the challenge is putting us off and we once again have selections for all the days cards below.

Hopefully your weekends will be aided by some extra cash in your pocket by the time you venture out for a few drinks tonight.

Yesterday saw us make profit, (however small) in all the running totals on the blog, most predictably for me the backing to place profit for the RED continued to grow and is now clearly ahead of the backing to win figure.

 I expect, over the next few months, that the disparity in the two amounts will only continue to widen as the key to any long-term profit making on horses clearly lies in making sure you have narrowed down the field of a race as much as possible, and made a streamlined selection based on numerous differing factors, when you have done this, you should be very confident that the horse you've selected has the class to at least challenge for the win, leading to the fact that the horse finishing in the top two of three should be extremely likely, you can always have issues when backing horses to win, they get pipped at the line, badly ridden on the run in etc but, if, when you have studied the card extensively to select a horse I would be extremely surprised if it didn't place more times than not.

Hopefully the RED selections continue to show that trend today, otherwise there is a good chance I will end up looking like a bit of a muppet after the advice I've just given out. It's all in the lap of the horse racing gods...

Selections for 23/06/2011

Yesterday showed another overall profit of £63 throughout the course of the five cards when backing to win, admittedly not quite the same amount of increase as the day before, but solid progress none the less. The backing to place market took quite a big hit, but that was always going to be expected in the figure which covers every race of every day simply because of the sheer volume of races the profit is forced to contend with.

However, in the profit/loss of the RED selections the place figure overtook the profit of the backing to win figure for the first time, something which, although I couldn't be sure would happen initially, was something that I was relatively sure of, purely based on the fact that the horses chosen are the ones I feel will most likely at least run into a place on the day, something which proved yesterday to be correct more often than not.

Hopefully we can make it three days of profit in a row in the next few hours, I'm sure we could all do with a few more pounds in our pockets for the beer fund this weekend!

Selections for 22/06/2011

As is often the way in betting, good days follow bad and vice versa. Monday was the worst the blog had seen in its short life, things were looking gloomy, there were voices of anger at money lost everywhere you turned and it was all rather unpleasant to tell you the truth.

Then came Tuesday, and all of the previous days worries were forgotten in what, even by my high standards, was an excellent few hours, we made over £90 profit at Brighton in the afternoon, whilst teasing Palace and Sheffield Wednesday legend Mark Bright on Twitter regarding his lack of winnings whilst we were stacking up the cash. We made £30 profit at Newbury in the evening, but most pleasing of all was what occurred at Newton Abbot, with all five picks from the blog steaming in to win, with odds as high as 5/1, not only did this generate £131 profit on the card to £10 stakes, it also would have generated a 475/1 accumulator for anyone brave enough to think all the selections were going to win.

The days winnings takes us back up to £458 overall profit since the blog began, but what I suppose I'm trying to get at here is that, although we may have many bad days in the coming months, there is always the possibility that a day such as yesterday is just round the corner, hopefully you all made some decent profit from it.

Making no excuses, yesterday was awful all things considered, pretty much everything we backed lost, fell over or decided to go for a cup of tea in the middle of its race, the frustration with this is that since the blog started we have had so many really good days that people begin to think you never have days such as yesterday, resulting in a bit of a backlash when they do arrive.

All I will say is that despite the pasting we took we are still in front on both backing to win and backing to place figures overall and, in terms of the red selections, backing to place did actually make a profit yesterday a factor I have discussed on here before relating to the fact that although the thrill of big winnings doesn't come your way when backing to place, it is, in my opinion, a far greater way of making long-term profit.

Yesterday concluded with profit in both the backing to win and backing to place arenas, and saw the backing to win figure shoot above the £400 mark for the first time, hopefully we never have to look back.

Just to reiterate to everyone reading this, my method of betting involves the use of Betfair for both win bets and place bets, the odds I take are the Betfair SP and not a single bookies such as Ladbrokes or William Hill. I do this for two reasons, the first being that, most of the time, you are in with a chance of much better odds using Betfair, whilst the second relates to the transparency of my bets.

The odds I post up to dictate my profit/loss are purely from the odds which everyone can see on the results section of the Betfair site, if you ever have any query or moment of uncertainty in my odds given on a particular result you will always be able to cross reference it, something which I feel is incredibly important in the long run, hopefully you all agree with me.

Yesterday proved to be another superb day for the blog in all honesty. With the conclusion of the Royal Ascot meeting we were intending to go out with a bang but instead had to settle for a princely £8.80 profit on the card, small in isolation, but when you consider that it concludes a spell which has seen us finish £180.90 up to £10 stakes at Ascot this week I'm sure you will agree, it really isn't all that bad.

Newmarket was the card which really shone for us yesterday, with winners flying in from all angles, leading us to over £100 profit to £10 stakes on that card alone, and making sure that the profitability of the blog continued to grow, with the overall figure now well over the £300 profit mark to £10 stakes in what is just our first 5 days.

The RED selections also went very well for us yesterday leading to over £70 profit during the course of the day, and hopefully netting some deserved cash for some of our readers who don't necessarily want to take the whole plunge into this way of betting just yet.

With Ascot now over a lot of the racing interest will die down from the "casual" punter, but we will carry on regardless, safe in the knowledge that whatever the weather, there will always be a fair few hardy soles looking to increase their disposable cash with a bet on the horses.

Yesterday was really rather up and down in terms of betting over all the cards, something which I'm almost certain boils down to the bucket loads of rain that fell all over the UK for the majority of the day, and most of the night before.

The big races at Ascot saw us make a disappointing £4 loss over the whole card, only having one winner in Nathaniel, still, we remain in a healthy amount of profit for the Ascot period and will not be put off by yesterdays lacklustre performance with our selections this morning.

Despite the randomness of yesterdays cards, we did still manage to make profit in both the backing to win and backing to place arena, however small, and now show over £200 profit to £10 stakes when backing to win in less than a week of the blog beginning, something which is pleasing to see and, hopefully shows that there is some method to what has already been called "madness" by some people I have spoken to in terms of backing so many runners each day.

Hopefully we can do the same or better today and continue to gradually build some profit for everyone who takes the time to look at my selections.

Selections for 17/06/2011

Yesterday was one of those days when everything seemed to go well for the selections. With Ascot being the race meeting that everyone wants to bet on, the pressure is turned up to try and find enough winners to ensure that everyone who has followed the selections has had a profitable day in the big races.

Luckily, the selections at Ascot yesterday did us proud, with Banimpire, Fame & Glory and Sagramor all belting up to win in the first three races on our card at a combined price of 148/1. That guaranteed profit from the day at Ascot despite the last two races and hopefully will translate into us have more luck with our selections for the course today.

Another impressive card came at Leicester, where from our five selections we managed to find four winners and a 2nd making us over £70 profit from that card alone, hopefully you were on.

There was also a healthy profit shown in the RED selections yesterday, which if you aren't already aware, relate to the races in which I feel the selections have the best chance of at least running into a place, a trend which I hope will continue to work for us today.
